This look is inspired by Northern Nigeria and the spirit of Resistance. In 1903, the monumental Battle of Kano took place. At this point, this British had claimed much of the Sokoto caliphate and the key territory that remained was the impenetrable Emirate of Kano.Kano was a historic force to be reckoned with, known for it’s powerful horseback warriors and surrounding wall which made it virtually impossible to capture. The British may have been more advanced in terms of warfare technology, but what they underestimated was the resistance of the Emirate. On multiple occasions, Kano was victorious against the British, before eventually conceding defeat in 1903.This look was inspired by the regal robes of the Emirs, and the warrior spirit of a city with a wall that didn’t give up. Resilience is timeless.
